A Review Of June's Targets - My Happiness Project
June was so busy it was crazy! I've barely had time to sit down, let alone blog and that has frustrated me. I have been working hard on my June targets and have been focusing on my blog. A lot has been happening behind the scenes but there's not a huge amount to show or tell you about right now. I'm hoping in the coming months things will fall in to place and you'll be able to notice the differences.
One of my targets for June was to 'enjoy the fun of failure.' For a long time now I have deliberately held myself back from applying for various opportunities, both in relation to my blog and at work. During June I decided to use this goal to push myself out of my comfort zone and apply for a few things, but with the understanding that if I got a 'no' I shouldn't take it personally and get upset by it. I applied to a popular American blog that writes about visiting Disney World and I was accepted as a regular writer, I can't tell you how happy this made me! I love Disney and visiting Walt Disney World, but I didn't want my blog to become too focused on this, so to be able to share my hints and tips over at The Disney Moms is perfect for me. I have also applied to work with another blog, but I am still waiting to hear back from them. If it's a no then I won't be sad, instead I will be proud of myself for being brave enough to apply in the first place. Recently I saw a post on Facebook asking for 'newbie bloggers' that might want to get involved with #PoCoLo, a weekly linky run by Steph at Life At 139A and Morgan at Morgan's Milieu. Each week they showcase a newbie blogger and I was honoured when they accepted my application to be featured. It was great to work with them and it introduced me to lots of new blogs that I hadn't read before. At work I have taken on more responsibilities and while I'm slightly nervous about messing it up, I'm excited to be able to use my skills and hopefully make a success of it.
I love my blog as it is my place to write, but I'm not so good with the blogging side of things. I am terrible for putting it last on my to do list and it often gets neglected as work and home life take over. There are things that I have wanted to do with my blog for ages, but I don't really know how to implement them and this is where my third target, Ask For Help, comes in. In the past I haven't asked for help with my blog before because I don't want to be laughed at by the more established bloggers for not knowing how to do what are probably fairly simple tasks, but I decided to ask for help from my lovely friend Jane. Jane has very kindly agreed to be my 'blog mentor' and is going to check in with me every now and again to see how things are going and hopefully answer my silly questions without laughing at me! It feels really good to know that there is somebody I can call on if I have a question, or if I just need a bit of reassurance about a post I've written.
My fourth goal of the month was to Work Smart and this is the one that I have struggled with the most. I'm going to write a separate post about this as I feel it needs a bit more than a short paragraph. I cannot seem to find the right balance to fit everything at the moment and it's really starting to frustrate me.
The last goal for June was to Enjoy Now and I can honestly say that I have enjoyed the past month more than any other so far this year. This goal is all about not looking forward for things that will make you happy in the future, but what can make you happy today. In the past I have been guilty of thinking 'I can't wait for my summer holiday, I'll feel so happy then', but what's the point of thinking that I can only be happy for two weeks of the year? I've changed my mindset to think about what is going to make me happy right now and it's making a huge difference to how I feel.
What are you enjoying right now?
