After months of dust and noise we are almost finished with the extension and the new kitchen. The space is absolutely huge and we are so pleased with how well it has turned out. There was a delay with the worktops coming in which meant we had a week with no running water in the kitchen. We had to wash the dishes in the bath and we almost ran out of clean clothes! When the worktops finally arrived it wasn’t without hassle. The fitters managed to seal the electrics for the hob inside the wrong unit and they took a chunk out of one of the newly plastered walls, this then delayed the hob being fitted for three days. It was a frustrating couple of weeks.
Once the flooring was down throughout the kitchen and orangery we started work on laying it in the lounge, hallway and den. In order to do this we’ve had to turn the orangery into a temporary lounge. It’s quite nice to have a sofa out there and although it’s the wrong size for the room it gives us an idea of how the finished space is going to feel.
Now that the major work is complete we can start looking at the finishing touches. I recently visited Home Sense and saw some lovely items that I think would look great in the new rooms. I love their huge vases of silk flowers as I think they really add a splash of colour and are perfect for bringing a bit of Springtime indoors. They have some great lamps in there at the moment and there’s a few different styles that we’re considering for both the orangery and the lounge. While I was there I picked up a couple of plastic cutlery trays to go in the drawers in the vanity unit in the kids’ bathroom. These are great for them to put toothbrushes and toothpaste etc in as it keeps the bottom of the drawers clean. I also got Chester a new dog bed – I never knew they had such a huge range of pet items! Once we have the new sofas I think I’m going to go back and pick up some cushions and maybe a rug or two as they have a large collection to choose from.
The next stage for the renovations is to get the walls painted in the lounge, den and hallway and then add the skirting boards throughout the ground floor of the house. The kitchen is waiting for the pendant lights to arrive and we need to order the stools for around the island. I also need to choose a desk for my office area and put up my art collection.
We’re always looking for design ideas and our Pinterest boards are filling up with beautiful pictures, but if you have any suggestions of where to buy items please leave us a comment below.
